Our church was formally organized in May of 1825 as “Powhatan Church” through the work of ministers from Cumberland County. In 1831 the church moved into a new building near the present Route 60 and took the name “Mount Carmel”. In 1890 the church moved into its present sanctuary in Belona with the name, “Providence Church”.
